Vol. 450 No. 8

Written Answers. - Taxation of Cross-Border Workers.

John Ellis

Question:

61 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Finance if he will make provision in the Finance Bill, 1995, dealing with the taxation problem of cross-Border workers. [6086/95]

Following recent representations made to me from a number of cross-Border workers I have decided to establish a joint committee of officials from my Department and the Revenue Commissioners to look at the various issues involved in the taxation of cross-Border workers. I will give careful consideration to any recommendations this committee may make, including what action, if any, is needed in the light of any such recommendations. However, as has been stated many times before, this is a very complex area, involving two jurisdictions, and it may be impossible to come up with any changes which would alter the treatment of cross-Border workers.
