Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 20 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Molloy — the need for action to secure EU agreement to the introduction of a new third tier of extremely disadvantaged areas for peripheral mountain regions and areas subject to severe flooding: (2) Deputy Sargent — the use of the £25 million equity for TEAM Aer Lingus; and the need to increase the market share of TEAM and to instil confidence in the workforce at TEAM; (3) Deputy Seán Kenny — the application for funding under the EU Urban Initiative by Dublin Corporation and the Ballymun, Finglas and North-side Partnerships; (4) Deputy McDaid — the dumping by the British Ministry of Defence of quantities of chemical weapons and nerve gas off the Irish coast, in particular, off the coast of Donegal; (5) Deputy P. Gallagher (Laoghis-Offaly)— the urgent need to introduce a programme of education and training for those in the judicial system, including lawyers and members of the Judiciary, involved in cases of sexual crimes against children. (6) Deputy O'Donnell — the need to respond to public concern at the sentencing trends in child abuse cases; (7) Deputy Tom Kitt — the need for an investigation or an inquiry into the allegations by a person (details supplied) that statements which he made in an RTÉ programme on the Tallaght Two in 1986 were made under pressure; (8) Deputy Eric Byrne — the urgent need for Ireland to press for the despatch of an EU delegation of human rights monitors to Turkey, in particular, the Kurdish regions in South East Turkey, to assess the situation and to report to Governments of the EU; (9) Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the urgent need for Ireland to declare a unilateral ban on the manufacture or assembly of landmines, instruments of torture or their components; and to campaign in international fora for a worldwide ban in the manufacture, assembly, trade and use of such instruments.

The matters raised by Deputies O'Donnell, Molloy, Sargent and McDaid have been selected for discussion.
