Vol. 451 No. 2

Written Answers. - Asgard Relocation.

Liam Fitzgerald

Question:

65 Mr. L. Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Arts, Culture and the Gaeltacht if he will provide funding, either from EU or domestic sources, to facilitate the relocation of the Asgard at Howth Transport Museum since Fingal County Council management have refused to assist in the funding of such transfer; his views on whether relocation of such an historical vessel to its natural berth at Howth is justified; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6357/95]

The Asgard is at present on display in Kilmainham Gaol. While its future is under consideration at present I am not aware of any proposals to relocate it at the Howth Transport Museum. My main concern is that this important historical vessel should be properly conserved, protected and displayed in the most appropriate setting.
