Vol. 451 No. 3

Written Answers. - Counselling Services.

Tony Gregory

Question:

52 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made to provide a person (details supplied) in Dublin 1 with treatment and counselling; and if he will give details of the services available to this person to deal with the addiction in view of the fact that all efforts so far to get treatment have been rejected. [6638/95]

Limerick East): The provision of services for drug misusers in Dublin is a matter for the Eastern Health Board in the first instance.

I am aware that, despite an increase in service provision, the numbers of people seeking treatment for drug misuse are considerable with consequent waiting periods for some persons on the waiting lists.

The board is addressing this issue and is developing services with additional funding which I have provided in 1995.

As the provision of treatment for drug misuse to the person in Dublin 1, who is the subject of the Deputy's inquiries, is a matter for the Eastern Health Board I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position and to reply to the Deputy in the case as a matter of urgency.
