Vol. 451 No. 5

Written Answers. - Job Provision.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

66 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Taoiseach the estimated cost per capita of job provision through the Area Partnerships. [6701/95]

I take it that the information sought relates to the cost per job in partnership areas.

During 1993 total expenditure of £2.079 million was incurred in partnership areas under measure 1 of the global grant for local development which relates to enterprise creation and development. Details of expenditure on enterprise activity by the Area Partnerships for earlier years is not available. During 1993 there were 1,190 job placements and/or jobs created in partnership areas. Based on this information the cost per job is £1,747. Comparable figures for 1994 are not yet available.

The area allowance — enterprise — involves the payment to a person starting an enterprise of an amount equivalent to that person's entitlement at the time of leaving the live register. Area allowances were introduced in partnership areas towards the end of 1992 and 744 allowances were paid in the period to December 1993.
