Vol. 451 No. 6

Written Answers. - Local Authority Revenue.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

64 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he intends to allow local authorities to retain car registration fees and motor taxation fees within their jurisdictions. [6142/95]

I assume that the revenues which the Deputy has in mind are the vehicle registration tax collected by the Revenue Commissioners and the motor vehicle duties collected by the local authorities on behalf of the Exchequer. Both categories are taken into account as part of general tax revenue, and are used to fund Exchequer spending generally.

I have no plans to alter that arrangement.
