Vol. 451 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Consultants' Pay Claim.

Liam Hyland

Question:

10 Mr. Hyland asked the Minister for Health if he has received a £10,000 pay claim from hospital consultants who earn up to £64,000 a year for a 33 hour week; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7001/95]

(Limerick East): I am not aware of a specific claim for salary increase for medical consultants. Under existing arrangements, the level of remuneration for hospital consultants is a matter for the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector. A new review body was appointed by the Government on 29 March 1995. The immediate task of the review body will also encompass an outstanding review of the remuneration of medical consultants.
