Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Foodborne Pathogens.

Pat Upton

Question:

41 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health the food borne-pathogens which are notifiable to his Department; the plans, if any, he has to broaden the list; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6914/95]

Limerick East): Foodborne pathogens are not notifiable to my Department. However, certain infectious diseases arising from these pathogens are notifiable including food poisoning (bacterial other than salmonella) gastro enteritis in young children, and salmonellosis. I have no plans, at present, to extend the list of notifiable infectious diseases.
