Vol. 451 No. 7

Written Answers. - Aircraft Maintenance Employment Statistics.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

109 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of people employed in aircraft maintenance and repairs in this country; the names of such firms; the numbers employed in each case; the amount of State funding which each firm has received; and the plans, if any, he has for this industry. [7180/95]

It is estimated that 3,600 people are employed in aircraft maintenance and repair in this country. Details of individual company employment are generally confidential. Information in relation to grant assistance to individual companies is available in the annual reports of the industrial promotion agencies.

The industry worldwide has been in recession for the past number of years and this has had a considerable adverse impact on the sector in Ireland. The State agencies continue to work closely with the industry with a view to restructuring and development.
