186 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Education the cost to the Exchequer and State agencies of public liability insurance premia and claims paid from the Exchequer for the last year for which figures are available; the plans, if any she has to reduce this cost; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The State carries its own insurance. In the last year for which figures are available (1994) details of claims paid from the Exchequer are as follows:

My Department is not in a position to furnish details of public liability insurance premia and claims paid in respect of Vocational Education Committees. This is a matter for each individual vocational education committee.

My Department is taking a pro-active approach to accident prevention through appropriate staff training and site checks.
