Vol. 451 No. 8

Written Answers. - Passports Investigation.

Tony Gregory

Question:

207 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the outcome of the inquiry into the alleged involvement of gardaí in accepting payments for passports given to Chinese applicants. [7504/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the matter in question was investigated by the gardaí and files referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions who directed in March 1992 that no prosecution should take place. The gardaí concerned were transferred to other duties and have instituted legal proceedings in that regard. These proceedings are pending.
