Vol. 452 No. 3

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Central Statistics Office Staff Numbers.

Mary O'Rourke

Question:

6 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Taoiseach the numbers employed in the Central Statistics Office in Cork; and the numbers employed elsewhere. [7958/95]

The Central Statistics Office currently employes 360 staff in Cork and 195 staff in Dublin. The latter includes up to 50 staff employed on the 1994-95 Household Budget Survey which on future occasions will be conducted from Cork. Eighty-five temporary staff are also engaged full-time by the office on survey fieldwork throughout the country.

Will changes be made in the compilation of unemployment statistics to show who is unemployed and the categories involved?

That is a separate question. If the Deputy tables a question I will be pleased to give her the answer.

Does the Government have any plans to increase the numbers employed in the Central Statistics Office in Cork? Many promises were made during the last by-election campaign.
