Draft new rules to replace the rules for the government of prisons, 1947, have been prepared by my Department and were published in July 1994 as an appendix to the Department's policy document The Management of Offenders — A Five Year Plan.
Submissions made to my Department following the publication of the draft new rules are still being considered. I hope, however, to refer the draft new rules to the Attorney General very soon and expect that they will be finalised by the end of this year.
