Vol. 452 No. 5

Written Answers. - Trade with Belarus.

Tony Killeen

Question:

100 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the action, if any, that is being taken to facilitate and encourage trade with Belarus. [8326/95]

The difficult economic situation in Belarus inhibits, to a large extent, the development of trading relations. In 1993, the last year for which complete Central Statistics Office figures are available, total Irish exports to Belarus were just over £1 million. Irish companies have benefited to a certain extent from the various multilateral assistance programmes for Belarus, principally the EU-funded TACIS Programme. An Bord Tráchtála will continue to monitor the opportunities for Irish companies under these programmes.
