117 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number of prosecutions arising from the illegal use of growth-promoting chemicals; the total number of convictions obtained; the number of people who were fined; and the number of people who were given prison sentences as a result of these prosecutions. [8303/95]

Since 1986, 62 persons have been prosecuted for offences relating to the use of illegal growth promoters. Convictions were obtained in 58 cases. Fines were imposed on 57 persons and one person was sentenced to a term of imprisonment which is being appealed.
