178 Mr. S. Kenny asked the Minister for Justice the action, if any she will take to ensure an improved Garda response to the ongoing serious assaults on public transport workers in the Dublin area. [8569/95]
As the Deputy will be aware, the Minister of State at my Department, Deputy Austin Currie, dealt with this matter in an Adjournment Debate last Tuesday, 9 May 1995. The measures being taken by the Garda to curb such attacks were set out in detail at that time and, in the circumstances, I do not propose to elaborate further on the matter except to reiterate that I am determined to continue to do everything within my power to effectively deal with these attacks. I welcome the recent agreement between Bus Átha Cliath and the unions to move towards cashless buses. This should assist greatly in reducing instances of robbery.
