Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Mary Wallace

Question:

118 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Health the amount spent by his Department on support for private carers; and the plans, if any he has to increase this expenditure. [8884/95]

Limerick East): Neither my Department nor the health boards make financial payments directly to private carers, i.e. family carers. The Deputy will be aware of the carers' allowance scheme which is administered by my colleague, the Minister for Social Welfare. It is the policy of all health boards to provide back-up support and advice to family carers, including respite facilities.
