Vol. 453 No. 2

Written Answers. - Salmon Licence Fee.

Brendan Kenneally

Question:

43 Mr. Kenneally asked the Minister for the Marine if he will introduce a graduated salmon licence fee in view of the fact that some fishermen are in a position to catch thousands of salmon each year whereas other fishermen do not catch enough in a season to cover the cost of the licence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7246/95]

Commercial salmon fishing licence fees are set by reference to the instrument of capture employed. The current level of licence fees by category, under the Fisheries Acts is set out in the following table:

Category

Cost (£)

Drift Net

150

Stake Net

150

Special Local

114

Bag Net

85

Draft Net

Box or Crib

60

I have no plans to introduce a graduated commercial salmon licence fee.
