Employment in IFSC approved companies at end-1994 was over 2,100, an increase of some 500 over the previous year. Additional employment has also been created in other services supporting the IFSC, but it is not possible to accurately quantify this employment.
As regards the further development of the International Financial Services Centre, I would draw the Deputy's attention to the detailed response on this issue given to a similar question tabled on 5 April last. I would add that in each year's Finance Bill, measures have been included aimed at facilitating the development of the IFSC on an ongoing basis. Examples from this year's Bill include the extension of the seed capital scheme to trading at the Dublin Exchange Facility (Finex), measures to further assist the growth of the collective investment funds sector at the IFSC and provisions to facilitate bond issuing activity from the Centre.
