Vol. 453 No. 6

Written Answers. - Currency Speculation.

Eamon Walsh

Question:

122 Mr. E. Walsh asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if profits made by his Department on currency speculation have been paid to the Central Fund; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9707/95]

My Department has never engaged in currency speculation. Under Government accounting procedures and with the agreement of the Department of Finance any losses arising from market intervention purposes are charged to Vote Agriculture and Food and any gains are credited as appropriations-in-aid to that Vote.
