Vol. 453 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport Charges.

Michael P. Kitt

Question:

90 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education the reason the school transport charge for second level senior cycle students is £36 per term whilst the charge for the same service for students up to junior cert. is £22 per term; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [9973/95]

The difference in the level of charges as between junior cycle students and senior cycle students is related to the upper age limit for the period of compulsory education.

Junior cycle pupils are generally below the upper age limit of the period of compulsory education, and their charges are kept as low as is feasible. Senior cycle pupils, on the other hand, are invariably past the age of compulsory education.
