Vol. 453 No. 8

Written Answers. - Categorisation of Maisonettes.

Eric J. Byrne

Question:

95 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment in view of the fact that maisonettes are not comparable in any way to flats, if they can be viewed as a different housing unit which his Department is prepared to sell to tenants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10044/95]

As announced in the policy document Social Housing — The Way Ahead, local authorities have been asked to give consideration to the sale of maisonettes (particularly those which do not have common areas) where satisfactory arrangements can be devised which do not involve the difficulties that arise in the case of flats. These difficulties were outlined in the policy document and accordingly the new tenant purchase scheme does not provide for the sale of flats.
