Question:

156 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the number and cost of special political advisers and programme managers from outside the permanent public service appointed at his Department. [10246/95]

Two special advisers have been appointed to my Department from outside the permanent public service. The cost of their appointments is £75,209 per annum. They are: (1) Mr. Thomas Tynan, who was appointed as a special adviser with effect from 30 January 1995 at a salary of £42,894 per annum, and (2) Mr. Flor Healy, who was appointed as a special adviser to the Minister of State, Deputy Jimmy Deenihan, with effect from 1 June 1995, at a salary of £32,315 per annum.
