87 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Health the hospitals, if any, which provide courses in maternity nursing; the hospitals, if any, which provide information on all courses for qualified nurses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10307/95]

Limerick East): Training programmes leading to registration on the midwives division of An Board Altranais Register are available at the following locations:—

Coombe Women's Hospital, Dublin; National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin; Rotunda Hospital, Dublin; Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, County Louth; St. Munchins Maternity Hospital. Limerick (Mid-Western Health Board); St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork (Southern Health Board); University College Hospital, Galway (Western Health Board).

An Bord Altranais approved category I back to midwifery courses are available at St. Finbarr's Hospital, Cork, the National Maternity Hospital and the Rotunda Hospital. An Bord Altranais approved category II courses in special and intensive care of the newborn are available at the Coombe Women's Hospital, the National Maternity Hospital and the Rotunda Hospital.

An Bord Altranais is the statutory body with responsibility for the education and training of nurses in this country. An Bord Altranais gathers and provides information on all approved courses available to registered nurses. This information is available to individual nurses and other interested parties. Individual hospitals would also supply information on courses which they run to anyone who requests the information.
