Question:

33 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice if she will provide finance for an extension and refurbishment of the Garda barracks at Ballybricken, County Waterford; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10400/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 22 and 33 together.

The refurbishment and extension of Waterford Garda station is a high priority and it is intended to undertake this work as soon as possible.

My Department has been working with the Garda and the Office of Public Works on plans for this project. The requirements of the Garda have been quantified and a sketch scheme embodying these has been prepared. Further planning work is now under way to develop this major project to tender stage.

I recognise that there is a clear requirement for additional facilities in Waterford. The proposals under consideration will effectively double the accommodation at the station, will upgrade existing accommodation and allow pre-fab accommodation to be vacated.
