Vol. 454 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Operations.

Michael McDowell

Question:

30 Mr. M. McDowell asked the Minister for Justice the special measures, if any, being introduced to deal with the existence of a feud between criminal gangs in the Dublin area following an attack on the nephew of a criminal gangleader in the city; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10422/95]

Ivor Callely

Question:

58 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice the views, if any, she has on recent press speculation that Dublin city drug barons are at war with one another and that gardaí fear that the associated violence may spill onto the streets of Dublin; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10277/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 30 and 58 together.

It is not the practice for the Minister for Justice to make statements to the House about the progress of specific Garda operations except in singular instances where the circumstances of an operation are so exceptional that such a course is deemed to be appropriate. All I propose to say in this case is that I have been informed by the Garda authorities that they are aware of a number of recent attacks and incidents and that they are monitoring the situation.
