37 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for Justice the amount spent per month and cumulatively per year by her Department in relation to consultancy services; the names of the consultancy firms involved; the purposes and the cost of each consultancy; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The information sought by the Deputy for each month from January 1994 to date is set out in the following tabular form.

The total costs from January 1994 to date amount to £1,415,056. It would not, however, be appropriate for me to break this figure down to reveal the cost of each consultancy because of the market sensitive nature of this information Furthermore, in the interests of security of the prisons, it would not be appropriate for me to identify consultancy firms or individual consultants involved in prisons works or specific building projects.

The names of the other consultancy firms involved and the particular purposes for which they have been commissioned are as follows:
