Vol. 454 No. 4

Written Answers. - Claim Against State.

John Ellis

Question:

205 Mr. Ellis asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if a claim for £200 million has been lodged with the Chief State Solicitor's Office on behalf of the Goodman organisation. [11047/95]

As the Deputy may be aware, proceedings against the State were initiated on behalf of the Goodman organisation on 12 October 1989 in response to a decision by the Minister for Industry and Commerce to void certain export credit insurance cover. The magnitude of this claim was addressed in the report of the Tribunal of Inquiry into the Beef Processing Industry.

As pleadings in the case have not concluded, it would not be appropriate to comment further.
