Vol. 454 No. 4

Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Michael Smith

Question:

223 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Defence the names and remuneration, including hourly contract payments, of all special advisers, programme managers and consultants since public relations consultants were first employed by his Department. [10947/95]

No special advisers or programme managers have been appointed at the Department. However, a special adviser and a programme manager have been designated pending finalisation of a contract in each case. Mr. Conor Barry, programme manager, receives a rate of £35,400 per annum while Ms Angela O'Donnell, special adviser, receives a rate of £8,813 per annum.

A firm of public relations consultants, Frank Dunlop and Associates, was engaged by the Department during 1992 and in the early part of 1993. The total amount paid to the firm was £11,584. In addition, the firm of Brindley Advertising Ltd. has been engaged since 1992 for the purpose of developing awareness of the "Towards 2000" initiative in Civil Defence. The total amount paid to that firm to date is £18,236.
