Question:13 Dr. Bhamjee asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the plans, if any, he has to develop the west Clare railway as a tourist initiative for west Clare, which area has a high rate of unemployment. [6342/95]

The development of any tourist project, as is the case with any business project, is clearly a matter for an individual promoter or a group of promoters in the first instance. The process can be enhanced later by consultation with the most appropriate local development agency which, in the case of west Clare railway, is clearly Shannon Development. I suggest that if any such project is likely in this instance, it should be taken up by the promoter or promoters with Shannon Development without delay.
