Eoin Ryan

Question:

19 Mr. E. Ryan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the deadline for a decision on the national conference centre. [10777/95]

David Andrews

Question:

197 Mr. Andrews asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the deadline for a decision on the national conference centre. [11032/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 19 and 197 together.

There is no deadline for a decision on the national conference centre. However, I am keen that such a centre should be established at the earliest possible date. EU moneys have been allocated to this project in the Tourism Operational Programme, 1994-99 and in line with Operational Programme requirements, these moneys must be expended before the end of 1999.
I am currently finalising my views on all aspects of the establishment here of a large, dedicated conference centre capable of handling 2,000 delegates, including its location and the full range of financial implications. I will be bringing my proposals in the matter to Government shortly.
