Liz O'Donnell

Question:

65 Ms O'Donnell asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade the benefits he expects to accrue from the tax concession extended to traditional seaside resorts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [10816/95]

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 63 and 65 together.

The objective of the pilot relief scheme for certain resort areas is to update the tourist amenities and facilities in the resort areas designated. I am confident that this will happen as a result of the scheme, encouraging investment to bring about an improvement in visitor accommodation and other tourist facilities in the resorts concerned. Ultimately, of course, the success of the scheme will depend on the response from investors. I encourage them to be dynamic and inventive in coming forward with worthwhile projects.
