Vol. 454 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Investigation into Budget Leaks.

Tom Kitt

Question:

2 Mr. T. Kitt asked the Taoiseach if he will make a statement on the report of the investigation into the 1995 budget leaks. [10587/95]

I informed the House on 17 May last that I had received this report and that its recommendations in relation to confidentiality procedures for the future were under consideration. The Government has now accepted these recommendations in principle and they will be implemented in the context of next year's budget. I am arranging to circulate a summary of the recommendations with my reply.

The Deputy will be aware that I laid copies of the report before the Dáil and Seanad last week.

My colleague, Deputy Kitt, had to leave this morning on the instruction of the Chair, so he cannot ask the question himself. It seems the report dealt with the administrative staff, not the political people involved in these leaks. Following his examinations, has the Taoiseach found that there have been political leaks or breaches of Government procedures in regard to this year's budget?

No person with access to relevant information was excluded from the investigation.
