Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Trade Tariff Arrangements.

Mary Coughlan

Question:

168 Miss Coughlan asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if consideration will be given to the provision of a tariff-free corridor along the Border for exports to the United States in view of the peace process; in particular if consideration will be given to the removal of the 17 per cent tariff for textiles; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11122/95]

Ireland as a member of the European Union conducts its trade within the framework of the Union's trade tariff arrangements and is thereby precluded from negotiating separate bilateral tariff arrangements with third countries, almost all of which, including the US, are members and subject to the rules of the World Trade Organisation.
