Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Task Force.

John O'Leary

Question:

172 Mr. O'Leary asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will set up a special task force, for Killarney, County Kerry in order to help resolve the serious unemployment situation in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11396/95]

I share the Deputy's concern about the unemployment situation in Killarney but I am sure the Deputy will appreciate that it is a problem which must be tackled coherently and consistently throughout the country.

As the Deputy is aware, the creation of employment opportunities in particular areas of the country is a matter for the day to day administration of the industrial development agencies and I have accordingly asked Forbairt and IDA Ireland to review the situation in Killarney as a matter of urgency.

I am satisfied that these agencies in co-operation with the Kerry County Enterprise Board and other interests in the area, will work together to maximise job opportunities and that it is not necessary to establish a specific task force.
