Vol. 454 No. 6

Written Answers. - Capital Flows.

Batt O'Keeffe

Question:

91 Mr. B. O'Keeffe asked the Taoiseach the total outflow of funds from this country during 1994; and the outflow of funds during the first six months of 1995.

Information on identified capital flows involving the private sector, general government, the banking sector and the external reserves is given in the Capital Account of the Balance of International Payments statement published by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). The latest available figures, relating to the first three quarters of 1994, are given as follows, together with comparative figures for the first three quarters of 1993 and the full year 1993. CSO will shortly publish full year figures for 1994.

Capital flows cover transactions in assets and in liabilities, and results are shown on a net basis. By convention, increases in foreign assets and decreases in foreign liabilities are shown as negative figures in the table and represent capital outflows. Positive figures represent capital inflows and indicate asset and liability movements in the opposite sense.
