Máirín Quill

Question:

20 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Defence the plans, if any, he has for his Department's property at Knockalisheen, County Clare. [11483/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 17 and 20 together. The Department of Defence currently administers an area comprising approximately 164 acres of State property of Knockalisheen, County Clare. One hundred and forty nine acres of these lands were offered for sale by public tender in August 1993. The offers received were, however, too low to accept and, accordingly, the property was withdrawn from the market in December 1994.

Agreement has been reached with the Office of Public Works for the transfer of 155 acres approximately to that body for alternative State use. The remaining area of approximately nine acres, including Knockalisheen House, will be retained for military purposes.
