Vol. 454 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rosslare Harbour Development.

John Browne

Question:

28 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for the Marine the further expansion plans, if any, he has for Rosslare Port for the years from 1995 to 1999. [11537/95]

An investment programme of £10 million for Rosslare Harbour between now and 1999 was announced on 19 May 1995. EU grant aid of some £5 million will be sought for this development from the maritime INTERREG Programme. All projects must meet the criteria for EU aid set out in the programme.

The development strategy for Rosslare Harbour essentially entails the continued concentration on the development of ro-ro facilities and improved access to accommodate bigger ships. In line with this strategy the programme of investment involves: refurbishment and enhancement of berths and support facilities; installation of two double tier ramp facilities; dredging of the inner harbour area.

This investment is in addition to some £22 million which was invested in the port in the period 1987 to 1994. This planned investment will ensure that Rosslare will continue to offer the highest quality service in the passenger and ro-ro market.
