Helen Keogh

36 Ms Keogh asked the Minister for the Marine the reason he will not disclose the name, address and amount paid to each individual who received compensation for loss of earnings under the £5 million Fishermen's Compensation Fund. [11497/95]

Robert Molloy

Question:

37 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for the Marine the reason he will not disclose the name, address and amount paid to each individual who received compensation for loss of earnings under the £5 million Fishermen's Compensation Fund. [11496/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

I would refer the Deputies to the reply which was given to Questions Nos. 208 and 209 on 31 January of this year, and which was reiterated in replies to similar subsequent questions.

In these replies Deputies were advised that the detailed administration of emergency aid scheme for fishermen was a matter for An Bord Iascaigh Mhara. BIM, is of the view, and I concur, that, as payments under the scheme primarily represented hardship aid assistance, the publication of a list of individual recipients would represent an unwarranted intrusion into fishermens' private affairs.
