Vol. 454 No. 8

Written Answers. - Lough Sheelin Angling Centre.

Brendan Smith

Question:

38 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for the Marine if funding will be provided towards the provision of an angling centre at Lough Sheelin; the proposals, if any with his Department for other development work at this lake; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11525/95]

Development of the inland fisheries resources within the Lough Sheelin catchment is a matter for the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board.

I understand that the board has submitted an application to the Central Fisheries Board under the Tourism Angling Measure of the Operational Programme for Tourism 1994-99. This funding application includes a proposal for the construction and development of an angling information centre at Lough Sheelin as well as for the overall development of the angling potential of the lake. I will arrange for the Deputy to be advised of the outcome.
