Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Allocation of Garda Manpower.

Tony Gregory

Question:

146 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if she will have arrangements made to provide Garda foot patrols at two locations (details supplied) where motorists are being attacked and robbed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [11962/95]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of Garda manpower to individual areas that the locations referred to by the Deputy are policed by the gardaí attached to Fitzgibbon Street Garda Station and by the gardaí attached to Store Street Station.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that mobile patrols are carried out by uniform and plain clothes gardaí in both locations. I also understand that foot patrols are carried out in these areas. In addition the divisional crime task force regularly patrols the areas concerned. There are community gardaí assigned to both areas and they also regularly patrol their respective areas on foot.

The Garda authorities are satisfied that resources are being utilised to optimum advantage in the Store Street and Fitzgibbon Street sub-districts and they are endeavouring to ensure that the areas referred to by the Deputy receive as much attention as possible.
