Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Veterinary Inspector Appointment.

Michael Ring

Question:

170 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he will consider placing a second vet in the Erris area of County Mayo as requested on a number of occasions by the people in the area. [12017/95]

My Department has no function as regards providing local practitioner services. Provision of such services as well as the establishment of veterinary practices in any area is a matter for consideration by private veterinary practitioners.

The assignment of official Department veterinary inspectors is subject to on-going review. At this time, the appointment of an additional inspector on Department work in the Erris area is not justifiable. If, however, local circumstances should alter, the situation will be reviewed accordingly.
