Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Political Party Membership.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

33 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Finance the categories of occupations which preclude citizens from participating in political parties; and the recourse, if any, such citizens have to put their case for these restrictions to be lifted. [11583/95]

Civil Servants above clerical level, members of the Permanent Defence Forces and Garda Síochána are debarred, under their conditions of employment, from involvement in politics. Any question in relation to such restrictions may be raised with the appropriate employing authority.
