Vol. 455 No. 2

Written Answers. - Civil Service Recruitment.

Seán Haughey

Question:

88 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Finance if there will be further recruitment to the Civil Service in 1995, 1996 and in subsequent years for general service, professional, technical and departmental grades; if candidates who have high placings on existing Civil Service Commission panels will be made offers of employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11644/95]

I am happy to remove the Deputy's worries about recruitment to the Civil Service.

I have already made it clear in public statements that the corrective measures in relation to the public finances announced earlier this month are, in part, directed at stabilising the numbers of people employed in the public service — including the Civil Service.

There is, accordingly, no alteration in the arrangements for recruitment to, or panels for, posts in various categories mentioned by the Deputy which fall vacant subsequent to the introduction of those measures.
