Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - EU Liberalisation.

Noel Ahern

Question:

106 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment in relation to EU liberalisation policy effecting several semi-State transport and energy bodies, if the EU Commission have devised social policies to deal with the implications of the directives; if proper consultation prior to approval of directives under Article 3.3 of the Social Protocol has taken place; if the requirements of Protocol No. 14 have been observed; and if he will make a statement on the social consequences of how these restructuring cutbacks are being made. [12160/95]

Matters relating to the implications of the EU liberalisation policy in relation to the transport and energy semi-State sector and in relation to the transport and energy semi-State sector and in relation to the social consequences of the restructuring of those bodies would be a matter in the first instance for the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications.

In relation to the Labour and Social Affairs Council, I can say that no proposals deriving from the liberalisation process in question have been brought before that Council under the Social Protocol or otherwise.
