110 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for Equality and Law Reform the Government's policy objectives for the fourth United Nations Conference on Women in Beijing. [12929/95]
The Government's overall objective for the UN Fourth World Conference on Women was to see agreement on a strong, progressive declaration and platform for action which would build on the outcome of previous world conferences and would provide a suitable blueprint for the advancement of women everywhere. I am pleased to say that this was achieved to the extent possible. We also wished to see policy positions of the Government reflected in the Declaration and Platform and to ensure that these documents were not inconsistant with Irish constitutional and legal provisions.
