Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Roads Funding.

James Leonard

Question:

130 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for the Environment when he proposes to allocate further funding for non-national roads. [12478/95]

Last July I notified all county councils of special additional grant allocations totalling £20 million for the improvement and maintenance of non-national roads. These allocations bring the total for non-national roads in 1995 to almost £123 million, which is an increase of £16 million on the grant payments in 1994 for such roads. Road grants have now been fully allocated in 1995 and there are no funds available to me from which an additional allocation could be made to any local authority this year.
