Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Mayo Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

140 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give approval to the preliminary report on the Achill Sound sewerage scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12700/95]

Michael Ring

Question:

156 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment when a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo will be granted approval in view of the fact that a report was submitted to his Department in February 1995. [12960/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 140 and 156 together. Having regard to the high level of commitments under the water and sewerage programme, I cannot say when it may be possible to approve this scheme.

Séamus Hughes

Question:

141 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment when he will give approval to proceed to contract for the replacement of the arterial main at Bunnacurry/Corrymore, in view of the precarious water situation prevailing on Achill Island and the substantially increased number of tourists currently visiting the area and the fact that additional planned developments under the tourist resort scheme are being hindered due to inadequate water supply; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12701/95]

Séamus Hughes

Question:

151 Mr. Hughes asked the Minister for the Environment if he will sanction funding for the replacement of the Corrymore to Bunnacurry arterial main on Achill Island, County Mayo, which has suffered severe water shortages during the summer season as a result of which the main industry on the island, namely tourism, is being restricted in its potential for growth. [12908/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 141 and 151 together. I recently approved Mayo County Council's proposal to provide a replacement arterial main and reservoir at Bunnacurry at an estimated cost of £1.9 million.
