Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - National Lottery Funding.

Seán Haughey

Question:

170 Mr. Haughey asked the Minister for the Environment if national lottery funding is made available to his Department to finance a scheme of grants; and if he will give details of this funding and the procedures involved for application. [13094/95]

A total of £6.29 million has been allocated in 1995 to my Department from the national lottery for the following: local authority library service — £3.54 million; swimming pools — £2 million and communal facilities in voluntary housing schemes — £0.75 million.

Proposals for grants for libraries and swimming pools are made by or through local authorities and are assessed by my Department — in the case of libraries, following consultation with An Chomhairle Leabharlanna and, in the case of swimming pools, having regard to the Department's guidelines specification.

The detailed administration of the communal facilities grant scheme, including certification that particular projects comply with its terms, is the responsibility of the local authorities to whom approved housing bodies may apply for grants.
