Vol. 455 No. 8

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Theresa Ahearn

Question:

225 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for Education when the necessary funding for the provision of showers in a school (details supplied) in County Tipperary will be made available; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13145/95]

A fundamental principle of the secondary schools building grants scheme is that works qualifying for grant assistance must have the prior written approval of the Department. The position is that the school referred to by the Deputy embarked on a significant building programme including the provision of two lecture rooms, staff accommodation and changing area without the knowledge or approval of the Department. In the circumstances my Department cannot accede to a request for funding.
